Supply Chain Manager – Technical Materials

Crane & Co., Inc., a premier manufacturer of fine stationery, currency and nonwoven papers, currently has an opening for a Supply Chain Manager - Technical Materials, located in Dalton, MA.

This role will collaboratively design and implement strategic sourcing strategies that deliver the best total value for Technical Materials. The position deploys strategic alliances with global suppliers to meet the needs for all nonwoven raw materials. As a key position within the Technical Materials operations team, this position enables the development of new products by working in collaboration with R&D, production, and suppliers.

The incumbent will represent Crane in a global setting with both customers and suppliers in a professional and technically proficient manner to establish a dialog with engineers and research scientists. Summarizes and presents data to executives as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Supply Chain Management with extensive sourcing experience for nonwovens fibers required
  • MBA or Lean Six Sigma certification, desirable
  • APICS or ISM certification, preferred
  • Experience with strategic sourcing
  • Experienced in the nonwoven, textile industry, or pulp and paper desirable, yet not required
  • Experience sourcing fiberglass, polypropylene, carbon fiber or polyester
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Familiarity with legal aspects of contract language for negotiation purposes
  • High degree of financial, quantitative, and analytical skills
  • Experience with supply chain value engineering
  • Demonstrated advanced professional presence and communication skills to represent Crane with global suppliers and customers
  • Process improvement experience and/or training preferred
  • Extensive experience with international sourcing with a willingness to travel up to 10% to 20% of the time to Asia required
  • Comfortable with global projects; able to facilitate stakeholder and supplier collaboration internationally and across cultures
  • Able to work with R&D, manufacturing and process engineers to develop new techniques and product applications
  • Demonstrates excellence in managing internal customers
  • Able to work up, down and across the organization and establish rapport at all levels
  • Self-motivated, flexible, dynamic, and proactive individual with the ability to coach, motivate, and mentor others

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews the market trends for several non-woven commodities and associated by-products, keeping abreast of changes in the markets for raw materials to identify opportunities arising from commodity trends, emerging technologies and market conditions
  • Assesses current supply base and evaluates where changes and developments are needed, keeping track of international currency moves, export/import requirements, and other trade issues that impact the sourcing of materials
  • Coordinates and develops synergies with corporate and, division stakeholders and global counterparts to prioritize an evolving portfolio of high-value process improvements and sourcing initiatives
  • Manages and develops strategic plan for all major raw materials associated with the division in alignment with customer fulfillment goals. Ensures an appropriate supply of materials at the most cost effective prices and schedules orders to meet production requirements and quality standards
  • Fosters relationships with suppliers to create short and long term value to the company. Negotiates procurement contracts to ensure stable, reliable sources of necessary raw materials and supplies protecting the Company from risks
  • Continually seeks out new sources and establishes new relationships to find superior quality materials and to replace other sources as they lapse
  • Actively participates with peers to lead the implementation effort of major initiatives at the Division level, looking for process improvements, best practices sharing, and standardization across the enterprise
  • Abides by, advocated for, and provides input to Corporate Governance Policies and Procedures to help guide the Division stakeholders
  • Partners with operational team members in planning and logistics to optimize processes, material flow and keep cost effective inventories levels
  • Develops meaningful Technical Materials supply chain Key Performance Indicators and measures performance via such information
  • Evaluates value engineering opportunities and partner with planning and logistics team members
