Research Scientist

Crane Security Technologies Group in Nashua NH is seeking a qualified Research Scientist who can contribute to the Research and Identification of new products / processes as well as work to improve existing products and processes.

Specific Accountabilities Include:

Contribute to the development and nurturing of new ideas. Listen to customers, both internal and external and seek to identify the missing parts that need solutions. Work to build a very broad understanding of technical aspects to facilitate significant involvement in the development and support of idea generation and execution, which will include understanding customer expectations and asking questions to exploit all possibilities.

Oversee, organize, and execute product ideas and process improvements. This will involve vendor relations, as well as working closely with VP of Research and various departments, setting objectives and methods, executing and securing requirements, as well as coordinating resources and preparing paper work. Observation, analyzing / reviewing results and communicating findings. Learning from what worked and what did not work will be vital. Designing and executing next round as necessary.

Become a strong contributor in the transition from the research to development phase, helping bridge the link between the 'Research' and 'Development'. Assist in keeping important projects on the schedules of assigned teams which will include developing plans and time tables as well as follow-up on the progress through each team and phase and communicate progress.


  • M.S. Degree in chemistry, physics, mechanics or optics
  • Experience with materials processing (emphasis on web processing)
  • Proficient in CAD and/or Illustrator tools
  • Strong Analytical problem solving ability; finding complex solutions in the most cost-effective manner while maintaining quality and security, as well as determining the financial requirements and impact of products and projects
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, with internal and external clients. Sharp listening skills and the ability to understand messaging even if not specifically articulated, ability to clearly present ideas and concepts one-on-one or in group venues.
  • Diligence in the protection IP, ideas and other sensitive information
  • Prior experience with security-related operations
  • Ability to organize trials and supervise the execution with diligent follow-up on trial results
  • Prioritize quality, over quantity, of ideas and deliverables
