Graphic Design and Watermark Technologist

Crane, a premier manufacturer of fine stationery, currency and nonwoven papers, currently has an opening for a Watermark Technologies within the Currency Papers Division.

The Graphic Design and Watermark Technologist will provide the artistic leadership, mechanical acumen and relevant computer skills (CAD/LCAD) to develop new design ideas and concepts along with the execution of graphic design to support mould shop activities. This includes artwork manipulation, creation of currency paper and feature concepts, watermark rendering, light/dark watermark element development, template design schemes and layouts for customers, cover-building and manufacturing, watermarking die development, and other creative design functions such as presentation materials.

This position produces the important first steps in early conceptual development and works with the operations of the Watermarking Technologies Mould Shop. The Technologist’s efforts must be successful within a time frame suitable to ensure our ability to meet customer approvals, product development deadlines and production schedules.

The incumbent is expected to foster an interactive relationship with counterparts and colleagues across Crane Currency’s four production sites and be able to confidently engage in and collaborate with key customers and their subject matter experts.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Arts/Science/Engineering
  • Experience and proficiency in portraiture
  • High degree of artistic ability
  • Extensive knowledge of computer imaging system, CAD/LCAD and general computer programs preferred
  • Ability to work meticulously, on very time consuming and tedious tasks for extended periods of time
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Preferred 2-5 years graphic design, industrial design, engraving and/or artistic experience
  • Computer-generated image manipulation
  • Mechanical acumen to translate artistic designs into moulds and dies
  • Drafting or engineering drawing experience is a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively across the organization and with external customers; history of working collaboratively with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form
  • Ability to interact effectively in high stress situations
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Planning and organizational skills
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and provide own transportation to travel between locations
  • Must be able to pass and maintain security clearance through the United States Treasury Department
