Business Intelligence Analyst

Crane & Co., Inc., a premier manufacturer of fine stationery, currency and nonwoven papers, currently has an opening for a Business Intelligence Analyst, which can be located in either Dalton or Boston, MA.

Partnering with other critical teams in Finance, IT, and others, the role is responsible for developing and implementing detailed data analysis that supports strategic reviews and the generation of actionable initiatives based on past and current business trends. The role is expected to develop predictive scenarios, forecasts, and models based on data.

The Analyst suggests, develops and monitors strategic Key Performance Indicators to help run the day-to-day operations and develops others to help grow the enterprise. Using data, he or she drives metrics in the supply chain group to help the company to world class performance. Additional responsibilities include the development of the supply chain dashboard to ensure the successful attainment of a high impact and effective organization ready to work on actionable strategies. The incumbent must be capable of providing guiding input for the optimization of current Sales &Operations Plan planning processes and forecasting tools.


  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Engineering, Finance, or Statistics
  • MBA preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma or Process Improvement training and/or experience preferred
  • Statistics and Minitab skills preferred
  • Experienced in Supply Chain and/or Process Improvements
  • Expert user of Excel
  • Well rounded know-how with all MS Office applications
  • JD Edwards knowledge preferred
  • Strong experience and know-how with Business Objects is desired
  • Ability to work with functional groups and different levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results
  • Strong follow-up skills; ability to multi-task, meet timelines and follow up with internal and external customers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex data clearly and effectively. Capable of interpreting data and presenting to different levels including executives
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize assignments in a fast paced environment
  • Strong track record of building and maintaining solid relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers
  • Self-motivated; able to work both independently and in teams
  • Strong track record of working with data-extraction from ERP systems, formatting and analysis, reporting, and management of Excel and/or SQL databases
  • Ability to pass and maintain security clearance through the Bureau of Engraving & Printing


  • Participates in the Strategic Sourcing Process. Plays a lead role in the analysis of historical spend data, and the forward looking forecasting of market trends that may aid in the development of sourcing strategies
  • Develops category and industry spend profiles, compiles and analyzes supplier evaluations, helps determine negotiation strategy based on data, and assists with supplier negotiations
  • Responsible for establishing balance score cards templates and process for supplier selection and evaluation
  • Run queries in Enterprise Resource Management systems and Business Objects to extract data, develop category spend information, analyze data and provide meaningful insights to management
  • Supports and ensures goals are met, including savings and supplier performance measures based on Key Performance Indicators
  • Manages assigned databases including the Supply Chain Dashboard. Generates and distributes accurate reports, and works with other internal stakeholders for timely resolution of data issues
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities. Contributes through independent action to the creation or amendment of supply chain policies and processes and helps maintain supplier master policies and structure
  • Runs reports on open and aged purchase orders and invoices on hold and then works with relevant internal stakeholders for timely resolution of issues. Manages payment terms, cash allocation and provides insight for inventory optimization opportunities in collaboration with divisions’ supply chain managers
  • Assists in the development of department metrics, collects data on an ongoing basis to measure performance and assists in development of standard templates for reporting of information
  • Partners with team members to gain insight about logistics performance, operational and financial metrics
  • Plays a role to improve Sales &Operations Plan forecasting techniques to improve accuracy, on-time delivery, minimize un-necessary change overs, or excess inventories
