Boxed Stationery Designer

Crane & Co., Inc., a premier manufacturer of fine stationery, currency and nonwoven papers, currently has an opening for a Boxed Stationery Designer, located in our Manhattan office.

The person in this position will design, manage and create, from concept phase to final product, all designs and packaging for boxed stationery products that will be sold within fine retail stores.

This designer will be responsible for developing new stationery designs that are both current and perfectly suited for their specific brands and targeted customers. He/she will be creative and highly organized, with a proven track record of managing work-flow and meeting established deadlines and designing within defined cost parameters.

The Boxed Stationery Designer will work collaboratively with the other members of the Design, Marketing, and Product Development departments during the research and development stages to ensure that all goals and objectives are met.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated initiative in their previous work experience, as well as the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.

Technical Requirements:

The Boxed Stationery Designer must have the ability to render concepts for stationery products, either through hand drawn or mechanical sketches, and then bring concepts to near final using either Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in design
  • A portfolio that demonstrates the ability to utilize composition, balance and color within compositions
  • 3 years of stationery or product design experience
  • Fluent in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat, as well as Microsoft Office
  • Able to brainstorm and mock up design ideas in a fast-paced environment
  • Creative and sensitive to the use of colors
  • An excellent communicator, comfortable leading initiatives and managing across functional areas. Strong verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Proven “hands-on” problem solver. Flexible, able to manage time effectively and juggle overlapping priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects; able to concurrently handle projects with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with designing for printing processes (e.g., Engraving, 4-C presses, foil imprinting, letterpress printing)
  • Experience in developing/managing aesthetic differentiation across multiple brands is a plus
  • Awareness of social correspondence and personal communication landscape and capabilities a plus
  • An understanding of Social, Business and Custom personalized stationery a plus
  • Ability to travel periodically primarily from NY office to Crane’s offices in North Adams, MA or Kennebunk, ME
  • Online portfolio required
