Filling in Reply Cards
Reply cards are easier to use than they appear to be. A space, usually following an "M," is provided for your titles and names. (The "M" is provided to help you get started with your title, assuming your title begins with an "M." If it does not, you may draw a slash through the "M" and write out "Doctor" or whatever your title may be.) The next line allows you to tell your hosts whether or not you will be attending. If you are, the space is left blank. If you are unable to attend, you write in "not." You then place the card inside its envelope and mail it.
What names are used on reply cards?
Your full social names with titles are used. If you are married, your names read, "Mr. and Mrs." followed by your husband's first, middle, and last names.
I received a blank card with just "The favour of a reply" on it. What should I do?
Blank reply cards are sent when a bride would like a formal response but is afraid that if she does not send reply cards, she will not get many responses. Since the bride provided you the card and the opportunity to write a formal response, you should do so.
My granddaughter's wedding invitations arrived with reply cards enclosed. I detest those things and would rather send a proper reply. Would that be proper?
It is always proper to send a formal response to a formal invitation.
