One of the most affordable types of printing, thermography involves adding a resinous powder to the printing ink. When the combination is heated and dried it creates a slightly raised effect.
Sometimes referred to as "imitation engraving", thermography produces an effect similar to but not quite as elegant as engraving. Because it does not require the creation of an engraved plate, thermography is less expensive and faster than engraving.
Speed of delivery and price make thermography a natural choice for short-run business applications including business cards, marketing materials, announcements, programs, menu cards, invitations and envelopes. On the personal side, thermography is also a popular choice for informal stationery, greeting cards, note cards, and invitations.
The first true papers were made from cotton almost two thousand years ago. Because cotton fibers are strong and soft, they fully absorb and accept impressions made during the printing process. Noticeably soft to the touch, cotton papers look brighter and crisper than wood-pulp papers and printed colors appear richer on their surface.
Crane's 100% cotton papers are ideal for those looking for an earth-friendly paper that doesn't sacrifice quality. Made with cotton fibers recovered from the cotton ginning and cotton-seed oil industries, Crane papers are truly tree-free. The inherently white cotton fibers require fewer chemicals for processing and produce less waste than other raw materials used for papermaking.
The simple elegance of cotton papers have long made them the paper of choice for engraved wedding invitations, personalized stationery, correspondence cards, thank you cards, table cards, and menu cards. However, because cotton fibers are so durable and hold up well to repeated handling, cotton papers are also ideal for business applications such as business cards, letterhead, financial reports, and marketing materials.
This is actually a three-part question, as you need to choose the material from which the paper is made, the color, and the types of stationery.
Paper is made from either cotton or wood. The first true papers were made from cotton almost 2,000 years ago. Wood-pulp papers came into being in the 1800s during the Industrial Revolution. They supplanted cotton-fiber papers for many uses because of their lower cost and the seemingly endless supply of trees.
The finest paper, though, is made from cotton. Before you order your stationery, run your fingers across the paper. Stationery made from cotton will have a soft, rich feel. You’ll undoubtedly recognize the quality inherent in cotton-fiber papers. Crane’s 100% cotton fiber papers have the touch and feel of uncommonly beautiful papers.
Stationery comes in many different colors. Ecru (also known as buff, cream, ivory or eggshell) and white are the most popular, but grey, blue, pink, yellow and other colors are also available.
You can order several different types of stationery. The two most basic are one for writing notes and one for writing longer letters. While these two items are essential, you may wish to add variations of these two as you build your stationery wardrobe.
A concise and helpful article.
I understand that Lettra is designed for letterpress - but i don't understand how I get the letterpress done? I'd like to personalize it, but it's not clear how I do that. Any advice?
